Teeming cranes represent the most demanding application for lifting tools in steelmaking due to the specific working conditions they are exposed to, the paramount importance of their reliability with respect to overall plant performances as well as to the specific safety requirements imposed by liquid steel handling.

Previous orders from ArcelorMittal, successfully concluded, refer to the 400 ton teeming cranes in operation at Dunkerque (France), the 440 ton crane in Bremen (Germany), the 220 ton crane in Acindar (Argentina) and, at present under engineering, the 460 ton teeming crane for Gent (Belgium).
In order to enhance its reliability and safety features, the crane supplied to the Ukrainian plant includes redundant configuration for main lifting with double motor, each fully dimensioned for max lifting, and double reducer. Drums are mechanically connected to ensure crane operative conditions also in case of failure of any of the elements of the two kinematic chains.

Dimensioned according to A7/M7 FEM class, the new crane features a 16-meter span and has been conceived considering extreme local temperatures, as low as 40° C below freezing point, both from crane structural resilience point of view as well as concerning specific solutions for operator comfort and conditioning in electrical rooms (container type). Customized design for secondary trolley arrangement has been developed in order to reduce overall crane height and comply with existing building constrains.

This important event sets another significant milestone in the long lasting cooperation between ArcelorMittal and Danieli, namely in the supply of “top notch” teeming cranes used in converter shops.
