Baosteel Fastarc Zerobucket EAF achieves production record

Danieli has awarded Baosteel in recognition of the performance achieved at its new Fastarc Zerobucket electric arc furnace in Shanghai.

The award follows the achievement of the challenge target set by the company in January 2026, with a monthly output exceeding 100,000 tons of liquid steel and considerable OpEx reduction in the range of 200 RMB per ton.

The new EAF meltshop was supplied by Danieli in 2023 and recently reached the impressive target of 31 heats per day (new 10-year record). The project required complex coordination due to the constraints of the existing plant structure, a tight execution schedule, and overlapping operations across several production areas.

Following the installation phase, the furnace entered operation and production performance was progressively optimized with a charge mix based on scrap (from 60 – 100%) and hot metal (from 0 to 40%). Energy consumption was significantly reduced while daily and weekly production targets were steadily achieved.

During the stabilization phase, close cooperation between Baosteel and Danieli teams enabled continuous improvement of operational parameters. Through systematic optimization activities and defect elimination programs, output and energy-consumption indicators were further enhanced, ensuring reliable operation and full achievement of the expected production targets.

The project received formal recognition from several Baosteel departments, highlighting the discipline in budget control, the achievement of productivity and economic KPIs, and the effective technical support and execution provided by the Danieli team.

This result establishes a solid foundation for further cooperation between Baosteel and Danieli in future technology and performance-driven projects.
