EZDK boosts productivity up to +150% with Danieli DANCUT blades

Egyptian long-products steelmaker EZDK has successfully completed an extensive performance evaluation of Danieli shear blades installed at Shear #7 of the wirerod mill (WRM), reporting exceptional results and a substantial productivity increase compared to competitor blades.

Between July and August 2024, two sets of Danieli blades manufactured with DANCUT510 tool steel were operated on shears 7/1 and 7/2 under full-production conditions. According to the official evaluation received from EZDK, each blade set achieved 45,000 tons before the first regrinding, with limited wear of only 3-4 mm. This allowed multiple regrinding cycles, resulting in a total potential productivity ranging from 135,000 to 225,000 tons per set.

Compared to the 88,000-ton average lifetime of competitor blades, the Danieli DANCUT solution delivered a lifetime increase between +50% and +150%, significantly extending maintenance intervals and improving overall mill availability.

In addition to the enhanced performance, EZDK highlighted the cost advantages of the Danieli blades. A competitive purchase price combined with extended lifetime ensures a lower cost-per-ton and reduced maintenance frequency. Based on these results, the WRM technical managers recommended sourcing future shear blades directly from Danieli.

This achievement further reinforces the cooperation between EZDK and Danieli Consumables across bar mill and wirerod mill operations, confirming Danieli’s commitment to performance, reliability and long-term customer value.
