SAIL Rourkela Steel Plant achieves record performances with Danieli plate mill

SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in India has achieved outstanding operational results with the state-of-the-art, 4.3-m-wide plate mill supplied by Danieli reaching new production milestones and surpassing its rated annual capacity.

The New Plate Mill is designed to roll 920,000 tpy of plate products, but recently exceeded this capacity achieving a record annual production of 993,000 tons, marking the second consecutive year of record performances.

Further operational benchmarks were registered during the same production cycle, including a new single-day rolling record exceeding 5,100 tons of plates; a slab-rolling record of more than 380 slabs per day; and a record shift tonnage of over 1,800 tons. These results confirm the reliability of the mill process control systems, automation platforms, and Danieli equipment.

The plate mill is designed to deliver a wide range of demanding products, including API pipeline steels, shipbuilding plates and special grades for advanced engineering uses including defense applications.

Danieli plate-rolling technology ensures wide-width capability, precise dimensional tolerances, and the flexibility required to respond to evolving domestic and export market demands.

These achievements confirm the technological maturity of the Danieli plate mill solution and highlight the strong operational commitment of the SAIL Rourkela team in pursuing continuous production improvements.
