Henan Jiyuan awards contract to Danieli for new EAF

Danieli has signed a contract with Henan Jiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) Co., Ltd. to supply a new, 55-t ECS Zerobucket™ electric arc furnace.

The project represents the first EAF for Jiyuan Iron & Steel and marks a significant step in the company’s transition from traditional BF/BOF steelmaking toward low-carbon and green steel production.

A long-established producer of special steels, Jiyuan Iron & Steel has continuously focused on high-end product development, green production processes and intelligent manufacturing. The successful completion of several previous Danieli projects for continuous casting and rolling technologies have strengthened the cooperation between the two companies, leading to the selection of Danieli ECS Zerobucket™ technology for this new investment.

The ECS Zerobucket™ EAF will incorporate advanced Danieli melting technologies, including horizontal continuous scrap-charging to minimize energy losses and off-gas leakage, together with a scrap-preheating tunnel using high-temperature off-gases to maximize energy recovery and reduce power consumption. The furnace also will feature advanced automatic process control systems to optimize power input and melting parameters, ensuring stable and efficient operation.

Compared to conventional bucket-charging EAF operations, the Danieli ECS Zerobucket™ solution will significantly reduce electrical energy consumption, carbon emissions and the generation of harmful gases, including dioxins, fully supporting the current steel industry requirements for clean, efficient and low-carbon steel production.

The new EAF project will allow Jiyuan Iron & Steel to establish a more efficient and environmentally friendly, special steel production process, improving product quality while substantially reducing carbon emissions.

The agreement also marks a further step in the long-term cooperation between the two companies.

Backed by strong localized manufacturing capabilities, dedicated after-sales support and extensive experience in special steel production, Danieli will support Jiyuan Iron & Steel throughout commissioning, ramp-up and operation of the new plant, contributing to the company’s sustainable and high-quality development strategy in the special steel sector.
