Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko starts BMZ (Byelorussian Steel Works) rolling mill

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko inaugurates BMZ (Byelorussian steel works) rolling mill. The new rolling mill supplied by Danieli will guarantee the highest-quality special steel long products to the Belarus producer.

On September 25, 2015, plant official inauguration ceremony took place in a new dedicated workshop within the premises of Byelorussian Steel Works in Zhlobin. The new mill is one of the most advanced in world for the production of special steels, the line can produce wire rod, bars and coils. The start button launching the new production line was pushed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, together with the deputy prime minister of Belarus and BMZ General Director. Members of Byelorussian government, and the Italian ambassador in Minsk took also part to the event. The new rolling mill supplied by Danieli is fitted with high-tech equipment and based on the most advanced technologies. It will produce 700,000 tons per year of special and complex steels grades in the form of wire rod (5.5-22 mm), bars in coils (20-50 mm), rebar in coil (6-14 mm ) and bars (20-85 mm). The mill will be fed by BMZ-produced billets with lengths from 8 m up to 12 m and blooms with length from 2,5 m up to 5,5 m. Present capacity is 700,000 tons per year, with a plan to reach 1 million tons in the future with minor implementations. The Plant is also equipped with off-line heat treatment furnaces supplied by Danieli Olivotto Ferrè to allow further thermal processes to rolled products to improve their mechanical characteristics to satisfy the highest requirements of market. Billet and bar conditioning lines guarantee the absence of any possible quality defect.

This is one of the most important projects for BMZ and one of the most innovative in Europe.
