NOx, SOx and PM abatement

Danieli has developed advanced systems for the abatement of nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulphur oxides (SOx) and particulate matter (PM) released by electric arc and ladle furnaces and related reheating systems, for competitive, intelligent, sustainable electric steelmaking operation.

By implementing Danieli original D-NOx, D-SOx and PM technologies, nitrogen and sulphur oxides and particulate matter abatements up to 90% can be obtained, reaching and overcoming the strictest present and future emission regulations.

D-NOx abatement systems, available mainly for electric arc furnaces, make use of catalytic and non-catalytic technologies with the injection of appropriate reagents to cover a wide range of process conditions.

D-SOx systems imply the use of dry and wet systems, including injection of hydrated lime in the fume-treatment plant ducts, which can be recirculated. They meet the requirements for SOx pollutants abatement generated during meltshop operation.

Wet Electro-Static Precipitators (WESP) –which can work coupled with direct contact coolers (scrubbers)– are used to capture both filterable and condensable particulate matter. These systems are also able to abate SOx, therefore ensuring the abatement of multiple pollutants in limited space.

Such technologies and systems are applicable to new plants and existing ones by implementing low-impact upgrades.

Case studies for projects with steel producers in Europe and in the USA are under development.
