TYASA’s new SBQ plant enters operation in Orizaba, Mexico
PAC signature confirms successful start-up of the Danieli-supplied 350,000-tpy complex
TYASA (Talleres y Aceros S.A.) completed a successful start-up of its new 350,000-tpy SBQ plant in Ixtaczoquitlán, Orizaba, Mexico, fully supplied by Danieli. The project represents a further step in the long-standing cooperation between TYASA and Danieli for the development of SBQ production and finishing capabilities.
The new installation comprises a complete SBQ production complex featuring a state-of-the-art hot-rolling mill equipped with the innovative four-pass, four-roll Draw Sizing Danieli (DSD) sizing block, together with straightening and peeling lines and a complete water-treatment plant. All of these have been commissioned and are in operation.
The plant layout also includes a new drawing line and a heat-treatment line, currently in the final stages of erection.
Cold commissioning activities started in early April 2026, validating auxiliary systems, automation sequences and service infrastructures. On May 25, the plant rolled its first hot billet, marking the beginning of hot testing operations. The first bar processed through the DSD sizing block on July 6, confirmed dimensional accuracy, stable rolling parameters and equipment reliability.
These milestones led to the signature of the Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC) on August 4, officially certifying compliance with contractual requirements. From the first days of operation, the plant has produced sellable SBQ profiles, including bars and flats.
With start-up completed, the project has entered the performance-testing phase, during which production capacity, energy efficiency, operational continuity and metallurgical quality will be validated over increasing production volumes.
The successful completion of this phase will further consolidate the plant's production capabilities and strengthen TYASA's position in the SBQ market.
