FAC achieved for Sanming MinGuang’s high-efficiency billet-grinding machine

Fujian Sanming Steel & Guangming Co., Ltd. (Sanming MinGuang) has granted the final acceptance for a new high-efficiency billet-grinding machine supplied by Danieli and installed at its works in Sanming, Fujian province, China.

The project supports the company’s strategy to improve product quality and production efficiency for special steel applications.

The supplied unit is a latest-generation Danieli Centro Maskin grinding machine integrating the HiGrind® system, designed for the processing of both billets and blooms with full-skin and corner grinding capabilities. The machine is dedicated to the conditioning of special steel products, ensuring consistent surface quality for downstream rolling processes. The scope includes mechanical equipment, electrical and automation systems.

The grinding line processes square billets and rectangular blooms across a wide dimensional range. Main performance figures include a constant grinding-wheel linear speed of 80 m/s, grinding trolley speed up to 1.2 m/s under load, and positioning accuracy of ±1 mm. Full-skin grinding depth is automatically controlled within 0,5 –3 mm. Typical processing time for 160×160-mm billets up to 12 m length. considering a full skin removal depth of 1 mm and three-pass corner grinding is less than 1,100 s in fully automatic mode.

The installation features heavy-duty mechanical design and high-precision components, including special bearings ensuring grinding spindle service life of at least 8,000 hours. The HiGrind® system enables precise grinding-depth control within ±10% tolerance, optimizing yield while ensuring complete defect removal. Furthermore, the precise control of grinding wheel torque is improving the surface quality and extending consumable life. The Danieli automation system adopts an open, multi-level architecture to support flexible production management.

Equipment installation was completed in December 2025, followed by successful hot commissioning in a single trial and fulfillment of all agreed technical parameters.

The successful commissioning confirms Danieli Centro Maskin’s position as a leading supplier of billet-grinding technology, with nearly 1,100 units supplied worldwide since 1953.
