Successful installation of new, Danieli coil-handling cranes at NS–Siam United Steel

NS–Siam United Steel (NS–SUS) successfully completed the commissioning and final acceptance of two new, 25-t Danieli coil-handling cranes at Plant 3 in Rayong, Thailand.

Supplied by Danieli Centro Cranes, the new installations replaced a 11-t crane as part of a modernization program aimed at increasing production capacity, improving operational safety and preparing the facility for future digitalized yard operations.

The new cranes are designed to handle coils weighing up to 20 tons, supporting NS–SUS production requirements with higher operational flexibility and reliability.

Final commissioning activities included load testing, functional verification of all crane systems, and operator and maintenance training carried out jointly by Danieli and NS–SUS teams. The scope of supply also included full technical assistance from the Danieli Centro Cranes service team.

The cranes demonstrated full compliance with Danieli operational and safety standards during testing procedures. Advanced protection systems and upgraded handling capability represent a significant improvement over the previous installation, ensuring safer and more efficient coil-yard operations.

Designed with future automation in mind, the cranes are ready for integration with the Danieli Yard Management System (DYMS), enabling development of fully automatic coil-handling operations.

Thanks to the modernization project, NS–SUS will benefit from increased production capacity, improved operational safety, higher reliability and readiness for future digitalized coil-yard management.
