North Star BlueScope Steel selects Danieli for hot-strip finishing

North Star BlueScope Steel has selected Danieli to modernize the original run-out table laminar cooling system at the Quality Strip Production (QSP) facility in Delta, Ohio. 

Additionally, a new down coiler #3 is planned to be installed downstream of the two original coilers supplied in 1995. These upgrades aim to further debottleneck the mill and support the plant's increased production capacity targets.

Danieli has been selected as the supplier for both projects.

As the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the Hot Strip Mill, Danieli will deliver comprehensive mechanical equipment packages and provide technical services for installation and commissioning.

These projects showcase commitment to innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in steel production. The new cooling system and down coiler will enhance capability of the QSP facility and facilitate a broader product offering. 

The cooling system installation will be carried out in two phases, while the down coiler installation will be executed mostly during plant operation. These projects are expected to be complete by the end of first quarter 2027, utilizing three scheduled outages. Danieli’s dedicated team of experts will oversee the installation and integration of the new systems, ensuring a seamless transition with no disruption to planned operations.
