Plant visits: there is nothing better than seeing with own eyes

The program of the Fourth Danieli Innovaction Meeting continued with visits to seven steel plants

Following three days of panel discussions and technology presentations at the Fourth Danieli Innovaction Meeting, attendees were invited to tour various plant sites in three countries, where innovative Danieli process technologies and equipment have been installed and now operate successfully.

Nearly half of all the guests traveled from the Group HQ to attend one of the seven locations during two days of scheduled visits. These plants were chosen among hundreds of locations worldwide where Danieli technologies are performing to customer satisfaction.

On October 4-5, almost 300 DIM guests visited:

 

ABS / Acciaierie Bertoli Safau, Udine, Italy

1 Mtpy minimill producing Europe’s widest mix of engineering steel grades, sizes, and finish treatments

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> Two 100-t EAFs meltshop with LF and VDs.

> Ingot casting line; billet caster, bloom caster, heavy blooms caster up to 850 mm dia.

> Rotoforge line (forging by rolling through a “RF” heavy duty stand) up to 18 ton.

> Blooming mill, heavy bar mill, bar mill (from 25 to 550 mm dia).

> Forging shop.

> Several in-line and off-line heat treatments.

> Downstream finishing lines.

 

Acciaieria Arvedi, Cremona, Italy

Record-breaking, 1.3-Mtpy pickling line and tandem cold mill complex.

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> 1,000,000-tpy pickling line coupled with a 3-stand, 6-high tandem cold mill, producing 1,550-mm-wide cold strip down to 0.2 mm. Special design to process ultra-thin hot band at high speeds, up to 450 mpm.

> Push-pull pickling line.

> 3 hot-dip galvanizing lines: 400,000, 350,000, 350,000 tpy; the furnace of HDGL N.3 is designed with a fast cooling section to produce AHSS.

 

Ferriere Nord, Udine, Italy

Benchmark minimill for bar and wirerod for construction markets.

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> 1.4-Mtpy EAF meltshop operating the most productive, scrap-based EAF: 150-t capacity, 11,000 heats/year @ < 350 kWh/t.

> 0.7-Mtpy bar mill with Endless Welding Rolling and bar spooler.

> 1.25-Mtpy twin-strand wirerod mill running up to 130 mps.

 

Marcegaglia, Ravenna, Italy

One of the most technologically advanced cold mill complexes in Europe

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> Combined galvanizing-painting line No. 3 (350,000 tpy galvanized; 150,000 tpy painted) painting on demand based on NIR curing oven, up to 180 mpm.

> 600,000-tpy hot-dip galvanizing line designed to coat P&O hot band up to 4.0 mm; the annealing furnace is designed to produce AHSS grades.

> 626,000tpy two-stand cold reversing mill.

> 300,000-tpy hot-dip galvanizing line.

 

OMK, Vyksa, Russia

Benchmark thin-slab casting and rolling plant: first QSP in Russia; first QSP plant for API grades up to X70.

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> 1.2-Mtpy EAF meltshop with twin-LF and twin-tank degasser.

> Single-strand thin slab caster, with H2-mold.

> 2+5-stand hot strip mill performing accurate thermo-mechanical rolling and with intensified cooling at runout.

  

Voestalpine, Donawitz, Austria

Europe’s most technologically advanced wirerod and bar-in-coil mill for specialty steels: great flexibility for efficient production of small lots

Danieli technologies highlighted:

> The H3 wirerod/bar-in-coil mill, with induction heating for bar temperature homogenization.

> Multiple-drive pre-finishing/sizing blocks.

> Finishing section for the best product size tolerances.
