FAC achieved for Danieli caster revamp at JSW Salem

Final acceptance was recently granted for the Danieli billet caster revamp project at JSW Salem, India. The project involved the replacement of a competitor’s billet caster with a Danieli three-strand billet caster, further strengthening the long-standing collaboration between the customer and Danieli. With this achievement, all three continuous casters operating at the site are now supplied by Danieli.

The revamping project upgraded the existing nominal 9-m-radius caster with a 1,300-mm strand distance. Danieli’s scope included new moulds for the production of 160-mm and 200-mm square sections, oscillators equipped with Hy Power actuators, Danieli Rotelec mould and final stirrers, new withdrawal and straightening units, roller tables, and a discharge system incorporating a lateral transfer car, walking-beam cooling bed, and collecting tables.

Following the modernization, the caster successfully resumed production and reached target output within one week of startup. The upgraded machine is designed to cast 160-mm and 200-mm square blooms, supporting the production requirements of JSW Salem Works across multiple product dimensions and steel grades.

The installation integrates Danieli casting technologies, including advanced mould stirring and final electromagnetic stirring systems, together with upgraded mechanical equipment throughout the casting and discharge areas. The new configuration supports improved operational reliability, production stability, and product quality performance.
