Spiral-welded (HSAW) pipe mills form part of Danieli W+K’s DNA. An impressive scorecard of 33 complete plants worldwide allows us to offer customers cutting-edge solutions, which have been tailored according to their specific requirements. Some of our latest references include two 100 ktpy plants in Algeria that apply the conventional process; plants in Turkey and the U.S. each with a production capacity of 200 ktpy, also including the two-step process and 3 final welding SAW stands. These projects all clearly demonstrate that Danieli W+K is able to provide high-productivity, fully automatic HSAW lines with minimal requirements in term of manpower. Our comprehensive product portfolio includes complete turnkey spiral-welding lines, single equipment for line-pipe finishing and technological expertise in revamping and upgrading existing mills.
Typical HSAW line productivity ranges between 100.000 ktpy and 300.000 ktpy, with ODs from 16” to 120”, WTs up to 28 mm, lengths up to 25 m and high-strength material capability reaching X100 and over. Pipe quality respects the strictest international standards such as API 5L and Aramco for oil and gas line pipe and AWWA for water transportation.
High productivity with reduced downtime for coil change is possible thanks to automatic coil opening and strip preparation. High product mix flexibility can be attained through the employment of a unique pipe-forming section with an infinitely adjustable 3-roll bending system capable of ensuring high pipe quality thanks to a very precise automatic welding gap control.
The HSAW’s high-efficiency, two-step production solution foresees continuous forming and high speed tack-welding during the 1st step and final pipe welding with a set of submerged arc welding stands - usually with 2 to 4 SAW stands - in the 2nd step. Therefore, a high output of final pipes can be achieved.
